Iviva Olenick’s Embroidered Tweets

If you’ve read my book Hoopla, you know that I’m a big fan of Iviva Olenick‘s work. Iviva, who is based in Brooklyn, NY, uses people’s personal stories and her local surroundings in her projects. Through her embroidered artwork, she’s diarized her dating life on hankies in ’embroidered confessionals’, stitched her neighbourhood jogging routes onto plastic shopping bags, and captured the letterforms of Brooklyn graffiti in French knots.  With her latest project, she’s embroidering the tiniest of stories – 140 character statements and poetry written through Twitter.

Iviva is calling all poets and non-poets to send her poems in 140 or fewer characters.  She says “Not a poet? Don’t worry. I am stitching all kinds of funny and insightful Twitter posts, which I perceive as unintentional poems.”

Her poem project will be posted at EmbroideryPoems.tumblr.com. To submit, tweet to her at @IvivaOlenick or @EmbroideryPoems.
